About ME

Shirin Khakoo is a Pakistani-American
writer,
community designer, and humanitarian practitioner whose work explores migration,
memory, and belonging through food.Â

Through her project, The Migratory Plate, she creates essays and gatherings that celebrate the ways food helps us make sense of home. Each menu is built from research, lived experience, and encounters across countries: from street vendors in mombasa and home kitchens in Amman to conversations with migrant communities in texas. Dishes are not just composed for taste, but for what they carry: memory, adaptation, preservation, and reinvention.
